Location
The Lakshadweep or Laccadive Island, as they were formerly called, are a
string of little known island, lying approximately 200 miles off the South
West Coast of India. (There are 36 islands in all – comprising coral
atolls, submerged banks and reefs, all irregularly scattered between 80
and 120 North Latitude and between 710 and 740 East Longitude).
General Information
It is commonly believed that the islands were discovered by shipwrecked
sailors during the reign of Cheraman Perumal, a legendary King of Kerala,
around 345 Ad.
Lakshadweep
Today, the population of Lakshadweep is around 50,000 spread over ten
islands. The Principal occupation of the people centres around fishing and
coconut cultivation. The isolation of the islands have ensured the
preservation of their pristine nature to the present day.

Regular flights
from Cochin to Agatti, transfers from Agatti airport to Bangaram –1
½ hours by boat. During monsoon, transfers are by helicopters.

When to Visit
The resort is open round the year. Even in the hottest months, April and
May, the ever present ocean breeze keeps you comfortable. The rains being
scanty, the monsoon season, May to September, is a pleasant time to be the
islands. The only difference from the rest of the year is that boats do
not ply in the open sea, hence transfers from the airport is by helicopter
and Scuba Diving and Deep Sea Fishing are not available. But the
encircling reef keeps the lagoon calm just as in the fair season.
From November to March and in August there are many tourists. (Maximum
capacity 30 couples), From April to September (except August), you will
have the island almost to yourself.
Travel and Transit Arrangements
Casino Hotel, Cochin is the gateway to Bangaram Island Resort. Thus your
holiday to the islands begins at Cochin. We suggest you leave your baggage
at Casino Hotel and carry only the minimum to the island. Specially
designed carry bags can be bought at casino hotel.
When planning your itinerary please allow one day at Cochin, both on the
way in and on the way out, to ensure your connecting flights.
Entry Permit
All visitors to Laksadweep Islands will require and entry permit., we
require the following information:
Foreign Nationals: Name, address, place and date of birth, Passport
number, Place of issue, date of issue and expiry.
Indian Nationals: Name, address, place and date of birth. |
