Allahabad
also known as Prayag is a city in the north Indian state of Uttar
Pradesh, situated at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers

The old city spreads along the eastern banks of the River
Yamuna. Lying 7 kms from the centre is the holiest spot in
Allahabad, the Sangam (confluence). Here the muddy brown Ganga
meets the blue Yamuna and the mystical Saraswati, with a broad
flood plain forming a sandy patch in between.
How to Reach Allahabad:
By Air: There is no direct air link to Allahabad.
However, the near Airports are Varanasi (147 kms.) and Lucknow
(210 kms.).
By Rail: The city has direct rail connections with

Chennai, Mumbai, Gwalior, Meerut, Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi.

Allahabad Fort:
Allahabad Fort that stands on the northern banks of Yamuna near the
confluence is a must visit destination in Allahabad. Emperor Akbar
himself commissioned this magnificently designed fort in the year 1583.
There was a time when this fort was considered among the best garrisons
in the entire Mughal Empire but little is left of that grandeur today.
The fort has massive walls and three gateways that are flanked by high
towers.
Anand Bhawan:
Anand Bhavan is the ancestral home of Jawaharlal Nehru, the freedom
fighter and the first Prime-Minister of India. The place is also home to
Indira Gandhi, the "Iron Lady of India". The place has today been turned
into a fine museum. The importance of this place also increases because
of the fact that several momentous decisions and events, related to the
freedom struggle took place here. The main building houses a museum that
displays the memorabilia of the Nehru family.
Alfred Park:
Alfred Park is a must visit tourist destination in the city of
Allahabad. Apart from the fact that Alfred Park is the largest park in
Allahabad, it has historical significance as well. The park is marked by
huge statue of George V and Victoria that were installed in the very
center. The Park was the site for official ceremonies at the time of
British that were often followed by musical performances of the Police
Band.
Allahabad Museum:
Allahabad Museum is one of the best-kept museums in India and that is
what makes it a must visit destination in Allahabad. The specialty of
this museum lies in the fact that it has separate galleries devoted to
archeological findings, natural history exhibits, art gallery and
artifacts donated by Jawaharlal Nehru.
Allahabad University:
The University of Allahabad that is popularly called Allahabad
University was only the 4th modern University established in India. The
university was established on 23rd September 1887. During the course of
history, the university has maintained its sound academic tradition and
several extraordinary achievements to its credit.
IIIT Allahabad:
The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad that is also
called IIIT Allahabad was established in 1999, as a center of excellence
in Information Technology and Computer Science by Government of India.
This institution was established in order to churn out enough graduates
to meet the demand of software engineers that was increasing rapidly due
to IT boom in US and Europe.
Khusrau Bagh:
Khusrau Bagh is close to Allahabad railway station. It is a must visit
tourist destination in Allahabad. The park has a historical
significance. That is because; this park houses the tomb of Prince
Khusru who was one of the sons of Emperor Jahangir
Minto Park:
Minto Park that has been re-christened Madan Mohan Malaviya Park is a
must visit destination in Allahabad. The park has its prominence in the
chronicles of History and that is why it is a must for both researchers
as well as casual visitor. Minto Park has been erected on a site near
the Saraswati Ghat in Yamuna. The site has a special place in the
history of British India.
